let's dance!
Jason and i went for our first dance lesson last night out at The Grand Ballroom in Richmond. It was sooo much fun! The instructor taught us the basic box step and then showed us variations. I have to say that we need to practice a lot more. Jason has the steps down but he's very stiff. Kind of like a robot. I can't help but smile though because he's dancing like a robot with a huge grin on his face like, "I've got it! Look at me dance!" which is quite endearing.
oh yes. we need to practice a lot before the wedding.

scanner frenzy
jason recently bought an all in one printer. it not only prints, but also faxes, photocopies and scans. it's a beautiful thing.
so last night i was on a scanning frenzy. i have been asked to do a slidehow for the reception so that my guests don't drink themselves to death out of pure boredom. i found this little gem and thought i'd post it up. i loved that blue sweater. but with the short hair, it makes me think if you google "little boy blue" you'd find my picture:

less than month now
it's less than a month till our wedding and i know the next few weeks are going to fly past. in september, we have quite a bit going on. jason insisted on a song for our first dance (which i have no problem with, it's quite meaningful to us), but the guy (BLESS) can't dance. he can't. he tried to teach himself by watching youtube videos and as much as i appreciate the effort, it just doesn't cut it. so i got us registered for dance classes at The Grand Ballroom in Richmond. i think it'll be fun. we've never done anything like this before.
last night we saw Oasis and it was a lot of fun! i did realize though, just how old and boring i am because 10 mins into the concert i was wishing i had brought earplugs. it was hella loud in there. i was surprised to see a lot of young kids there. oasis came out when i was in grade 9 and they probably weren't even born yet. anyway, they were there singing the newer stuff and when Liam started singing Champagne Supernova, all the kids sat down in confusion: "What is this song? I don't know this song!" I laughed to myself. I wanted to tell them to stand up, this is the best part! Classics!!! But they wouldn't understand why an old fart was yelling at them, so i let them be.
o, to be young again.
PFFT!

good point dave.
just now, my coworker asked me, "how's it going? the big day is coming up pretty fast, eh?" i mumbled something like, "thanks dave, thanks for reminding me i have 4 weeks left and still have lots of things to do."
and then he said to try not to get worked up on the small things. people getting married tend to focus on the small things in order to avoid thinking of the BIG THING, ie. the life altering moment which is getting married.
that is so true. i think i'm (and i'm sure jason as well) a bit freaked out about knowing that i'm getting married and my life is forever going to change on September 27th. so of course the easiest thing to do is detract my attention from that, by focusing on small details no one else will care about once the day is done.
he also said that it's ok if i start drinking at work to cope with the stress - it's expected. they'll just all point and whisper about me behind my back. LOL
4 weeks. technically we have 10 days to do anything because jason's only day off is Sunday and Tuesday, but Tuesday evening only. we still need to get a cake, get the groomsmen their outfits, take dance classes, figure out the music for the ceremony and reception, create a slideshow, so many things to do.
haha! i'm doing it again.
where's my kilkenny.

the shit end of the stick
so i seem to get the shit end of the stick when it comes to assistants. my first assistant didn't care and didn't have any pride in her work, which is why everything she did was wrong. she was so miserable, she quit. Good. I didn't have to deal with her anymore.
then i got my next assistant and she was great, but mostly because she was with the company for a few years and she knew how to do her job and unlike my first assistant, she took pride in her work. she wanted things done right and made sure things were done right.
then what happened.
staff turnover. lots of people left, we got new people in. we were understaffed for a while.
in july, my supervisor decides she wants my assistant and in turn i get the new girl who starts the following week. she's the one from kazakhstan - remember? WAHWAHWEEWAH?
well, she sucks. she sucks BIG TIME. she's not a very bright person and i end up sounding like a broken record because she forgets anything you've told her or trained her on.
for example:
one of her tasks is to pull all my renewals for me so i can start reviewing them a month ahead of the expiry date. i asked her to put them in date chronological order, just like last month. she comes up to me and asks,
"when you say chronological order, does that mean alphabetical order? do you want your files in alphabetical order by the person's name?"
I looked at her not knowing what to say. I thought to myself, "she must be joking. this is a funny borat joke." But no, she was serious. So I had to define "chronological" for her.

No you dumb fuck. If I wanted it in alphabetical order
I would have asked you to put my files in Alpha-fucking-betical order.
I looked at her not knowing what to say. I thought to myself, "she must be joking. this is a funny borat joke." But no, she was serious. So I had to define "chronological" for her.
This was also the 2nd time she asked me what chronological means.
The first time I was nice. The second time, I'm not as nice. In fact, I'm quite a bitch. Why wouldn't someone think, "Oh, I asked her this before. I'm going to look up 'Chronological' in the dictionary so I don't look like a total DONKEY.

what am I? A saint?
I've been asked to be a Godmother again. My cousin called me last night (she lives in LA) and asked me to be the godmum to her youngest daughter Caitlynn. That brings the total to 3 godkids: Sierra, Rhett and Caitlynn.
I would say I'm honored, but I have a feeling it's one of those filipino godparent things where the kids get 10 of them. 5 godmothers, 5 godfathers. I think having too many doesn't make it as special anymore since there are so many of them. Her baptism is in August and I told my cousin I won't be able to fly down and she said that's fine. I'm guessing it's fine because there's 9 other people who'll be standing at the altar with the kid.
Wow. Three Godchildren. People must think I'm a saint or something.
HAHAHAHAHA
Little do they know............

new life new city?
I have been contemplating moving to another city. I talked to Jason about it and he seems quite open to the idea. I think it would be a nice (and much needed) change: different atmosphere, different culture, different pace....My company has a position open in Halifax, NS. I think living in the Maritimes would be awesome. I also know Toronto has a lot of opportunities in the industry I work in. Montreal would also be a great place to live. I lived there for 4 months and absolutely loved it. Everyone there is so laid-back and it's really easy to make friends there. There's also the possibility of moving to Europe. I completed my last CIP course and since it's recognized in all commonwealth countries, I could work in so many other places such as the UK, New Zealand, Australia...even Trinidad! There's other possibilities such as moving to small towns in France, England or Spain. Jason and I can open up our own patisserie in Brittany, France or a pub in Manchester or a restaurant in Seville. We've discussed this before, but more in the context of what we would do when we retire.
O! Retirement. I can't wait to retire, but that's another post for another day....

holy shit.
We got a notice from Canada Post yesterday - there's a parcel waiting for us at the Post Office. I thought, wow, it could possibly be our first wedding gift!
Jason went to the Post Office this morning and retrieved a very large envelope. It was sent registered.
I just saw the contents. There was a letter, and two card envelopes. I read the letter. It's from my Godmother, Lilia. I haven't talked to her since her son's wedding 3 years ago, but I've always regarded her as very generous and kind. I remember my family bumped into hers at the PNE when I was 6 and she shoved a one-hundred dollar bill in my small paw. That was for First Communion.
So I read the letter. She thanked us for inviting them to our wedding, gave us updates on what she's up to, what her son is up to. All very nice.
I open up an envelope. It's a wedding card with her business card in it and the RSVP.
The second card envelope. The motherload of it all.....

A card that says "A Wedding Gift For You" with a cheque made out to us in the amount of $1,000.00
Not 100 bucks. 1000 bucks. I made sure to count the zeros and that there's a comma after the one.
HOLY SHIT!
She said she owes me big time for missing my Confirmation, Graduation and Birthdays.
I LOVE MY GODMUM!!!

July is a GREAT month
Lots of things happening this month, such as me completing the last course in completing my CIP (Chartered Insurance Professional designation). I wrote the exam on the 10th and I'm pretty sure I didn't fail it. We also booked our florist. Thanks to Melissa, I bought my wedding shoes! I went to the states with her a month or so ago and I found a pair of Stuart Weitzman shoes, but they didn't have my size. Last Friday, Melissa called and said that Winners had my shoes for only $130!! It was a steal! We've also decided on our wedding favours. I also picked up my veil. Today, I found out that we have possession of new apartment on Monday, July 21st so we can start moving in next week!! Last Friday, our office had our annual summer event. This year we went on a mystery boat cruise. It was "Clue" on a boat! Fabaluss.
Lots of great things going on and I couldn't be happier! Not to mention that my bestest friend is coming home early August - I'm so happy she'll be here, I can't wait to see her!

recap of my interrupted canada day long weekend
Friday - got drunk at mooses. almost threw up on robson street. thought gelato would make me feel better. it didn't.
Saturday - i yelled at the contractor in the morning because he parked his car right in front of the door so no one could get out. you could probably hear me from robson & denman. no one tells me to "shut up." Then i took the skytrain to new west to pick up my veil. i will never take skytrain again. at noon, there was a drunk guy who was yelling at people on the train and then he started smoking in the train! WTF. went to the gym. sat on the beach with my friend Nen, met up with sandy later. met up with jason and we walked home together.
Sunday - went for tasting! four seasons wedding coordinator started to bug me with her "we're doing this very early" and "you don't have to make any decisions now" comments. No, it's not early. I want to get things done now so I don't have to think about it later. food was good though. she let us take it all home. Went to parents place for BBQ - more food to take home. went through closets and threw out things - that made me feel so much better.
it sounds like i had weekend of annoyances, but really, it was quite enjoyable!

wiiiii!!!
my good friend loulou had a wii party at her place last saturday and we were all pumped. people told me that you get a good workout playing wii, but i didn't believe them. tennis - all you do is wave your arm around. same with golf. and baseball. bowling is like bowling. BOXING, on the other hand, was a different story.
you get so into it that you don't realize you're punching like you're actually hitting your opponent.
now my back is really sore. but it's worth it.
:o)

the downside
the downside of being in the same industry as your mother is when you go to industry cocktail parties after work and get smashed with your colleagues. your mother is there to tap you on your shoulder and ask, "how much have you had to drink? do you want to leave with me? your dad is downstairs waiting. we can drop you off at home. i'm going in 15 mins."
oh dear god.
i think she will be retiring in 5 years. at least i hope so.

"we're moving on up......to the east side"
This past Monday we received Notice to End Tenancy from our Landlord. You see, our apartment building was sold to the new owner who now wants to renovate all units and jack up the rent. We were the only tenants left on our floor so on Monday, we were told we have 2 months to leave the premises.
It was stressful getting the notice. By August 31st we have to be out of there and in a new place and our wedding is in September....too much on our plate!
Since Jason had Monday and Tuesday off, he scoured the West End for a new place to live. A lot of the affordable stuff is crap. We enjoyed a sweet deal at our place on Beach Ave - $1000 rent between the both of us, includes parking. We were right on the beach, at the entrance of Stanley Park and we had "THE" place for the annual fireworks competitions.
We viewed a condo in The George building - it's a newish bldg - 2 bedroom, 2 full bath and the kicker for me - INSUITE LAUNDRY. Rent is a lot more, but considering 1 bedroom apartments in the West End are going for at least $1400, this one's a steal. It's closer to work - about 4 blocks away for me and half the distance for Jason - and we're on the 15th floor so we get a nice view of the North Shore and Stanley Park.
I just got a call from the realty company that we were accepted and can move in August 1st!!
We are so excited. I will never have to scrounge up loonies for laundry and I no longer have to pay for gym membership as there's a gym in the building!
Insuite laundry and a dishwasher. Can it get any better than that???

off they go!
we sent off the first batch of invites, mostly people we work with and family in Canada.
we're still waiting for addresses for familiy outside of Canada, so that may a few more days. i also found a box to put jackie's bridesmaid dress so it's on its way to california. as funny as this sounds, it now feels like we're getting married with our invitiations being sent. the point of no return.
on a sad note, i just heard this morning that one of my uncles had a stroke and he's in the hospital trying to recover. he has to go through speech therapy as he can't complete a sentence anymore. sigh. praying for his speedy recovery.

We have a new mom at work
Good Morning Everyone
Just to let you all know, there is a new kettle in the kitchen please read the instructions carefully before using it.
Mail Clerk
Our mail clerk is at it again with her email reminders and warnings! I already deleted the one in my inbox last week about how we need to wash our own dishes that we bring from home instead of putting it through the dishwasher. Why'd I delete that one?? Another classic!
It feels like we have a mommie dearest at the office.

it's my birthday today!

my "tiara"
last saturday sandy and i went to new west to pick up the bridesmaid dresses. while we were there, she tried hers on and it fit like a glove!! she looks fabaluss in it and the color is just amazing! so subtle and pretty. they're all going to look great in that dress. i have such great taste.
i also found my veil and ordered that too. while we were veil shopping, i also tried on many tiaras and much to my dismay i really like one of them, so i bought it. well, it's not really a tiara, it's more like a jewelled hairband. i didn't budget or think i'd get one at all, but with the veil, it just looks complete, whole, FAH-BA-LUSS! i'll just sell it on craigs list after the wedding.
yesterday, we went to my parents place for mother's day, hung out and then went out for dinner. i wore my tiara at my parents place as well. i will probably wear it tonight. maybe even for my birthday tomorrow, I LOVE IT!

Mail clerk
I really really dislike our mail clerk. There are many reasons why...for example, this is an email she sent the staff this morning:
Good Morning Everyone
It has been brought to my attention that someone is making a pot of coffee after 3:00 P.M. It has happened a couple of times . The coffee has been thrown out the next morning which is a waste.
PLSE DO NOT MAKE COFFEE AFTER 3:00 PM AS IT IS A WASTE !
Thank you for your cooperation
Seriously. Now we are banned from making coffee after 3PM? What if someone is working late and wants to make coffee? She is such an IDIOT. I don't know why the company hired her dumb ass.
Yesterday, she also hounded one of the assistants on why she was leaving early. The assistant said, "I have the afternoon off" and the dumbass mail clerk kept hounding her on why it isn't noted down on the calendar at the front desk. Our supervisor approved it and sent the info to the receptionist who has been away this week so she didn't get a chance to put it in the calendar. Since when do we have to report to the mail clerk? She's such a IDIOT. I can't facking stand her and her stinky perfume that she bathes in every morning.

ok, this is more of a rant than anything else, but a couple of people have already started inviting themselves, or at least assumed they're invited to our wedding. a girl i went to elementary school with found me on facebook and we've been catching up. so now she's moving back to vancouver after living in japan for a few years and she's wondering when our wedding is so she can make sure she can come. what the heck? i haven't replied or told her when the wedding is. i've mentioned our wedding in passing, but never in detail.
i was afraid this might happen. we intended our wedding to be small-ish. 100 people max. we are definately not inviting everyone we know, just friends and family we are close to. "close" is the key word. if we haven't kept in touch in the last 5 - 10 years, chances are, you won't be invited. if we did, our guest list would resemble a full out filipino wedding where you have 20 sponsors, 10 bridesmaids and 10 groomsmen and 8 ring bearers and flowergirls. HAH not going to happen.
i've been really careful to not talk about the wedding or mention it to people whom we know will not be invited, but i guess it didn't work. people hear it from other people and before you know it, i'm getting emails asking when our wedding is so that they can book time off or plane tickets.
in other news, i wrote my advanced underwriting course yesterday and it was the shits. why a 20 point question on aviation risks? who writes aviation risks?? not commercial insurers that's for sure. don't know why they would have that on the exam. not practical at all.
alas, one more course to go and i get my CIP designation, wahoo!

i watch dvds
when i turn on the tv, i'm disappointed. it's slim pickins nowadays. the only shows i watch are law & order, big brother and 3 different bridal shows. i thought about cancelling our cable, but that would only upset jason since he won't be able to access the food network.
did i mention i looove big brother?? this year is pretty good. lots of drama and i'm rooting for the underdog, James.
so i've bought quite a few tv dvds to pass the time when i'm home alone. this past weekend i bought the 8th season of frasier (my absolute favorite sitcom). i also have all seasons of entourage and the last season of sex and the city. oh and i have the first season of the tudors.
another tv series i'm interested in getting is Rome. we saw an episode on the history channel and it's great!! a bit gory, but it's expected.
now that we also bought a flat screen monitor for our computer, we can watch our movies on it from the bed. BAD IDEA. now jason watches the food network on TV in the living room and i hole myself up in the bedroom watching my dvds. it's like having a tv in the bedroom. but better because there are no commercials. hmm i'm contradicting myself.
so off i go to make myself a ginormous salad for dinner, study another chapter in my textbook and wait till 9pm to watch big brother. GO JAMES GO!

it would be my pleasure...
a month ago, when i asked jason's 6 year old nephew, Carter, if he'd like to be our ring bearer, he said, "it would be my pleasure." so cute.
yesterday, jason and i dropped by his sister's house for a quick visit. his sister has 3 kids: Carter, Blake and the newborn - Rhett. She asked the both of us to be Rhett's Godparents. I must say I am really flattered and honored that she would like me to be the Godmum. I've always felt that we never really got along that great, but Jason would always say that she likes me and that i'm just being paranoid.
The Toths aren't an excitable or emotional family. They don't really get excited about things. So when Chantal asked if we could be godparents, jason mumbled some sort of answer that I can only imagine was a "yes." I had to ask her to repeat herself in case i misheard what she said. Of course, I'm all smiles and am excited. After I said yes too, that topic was over and they started talking about their Mum planting something in the garden. so nonchalant.
me, i'm sitting giddy in my chair wanting to talk more about it.
and that's why i'm the lovable one.

waste of time
so this spitzer NY governor guy....who the fuck cares? seriously, who cares what he does in the boudoir? he's politician - is this such a shocker?
if Gordon Campbell or (even better) Sam Sullivan were caught in some sort of sex scandal, i think it would be viewed as more of a farce than some dramatic bullcrap. imagine how good "This Hour Has 60 Minutes" would be! Rick Mercer would have a heyday with that one. i would laugh my ass off if the Premier of BC or the Mayor of Vancouver was caught hiring high-class hookers. WHO CARES. if the lady of the night is not a minor, then it would be consensual sex, n'est-ce pas? He pays, she delivers a service. end of that. The only victims here are the families involved, so why make this even bigger than it should be?
It's weird culture down there.

guilty pleasure
last year when jason and i went to ireland, we watched a lot of movies on the plane. A LOT. 4 movies our way there and 4 movies on our way back. one of them was blades of glory. as they started playing the movie, i obnoxiously rolled my eyes and changed the station to plain old music. but wait. people are laughing. hysterically laughing. i turn around and jason is crying laughing. i quickly change the station back to watch the movie and unfortunately i only caught the end of the movie.
last saturday, i went to my local rogers videostore and decided to rent 2 Days in Paris (very good movie by the way). as i was waiting for the next cashier, i looked at a bin to my left with a stack of movies on sale. $5.99 + 25% off! how could i resist? so i rummage through them and guess what i saw: Blades of Glory. so of course i had to buy it - i mean, i couldn't pass that up. $5.99 + 25% off? What a steal!
so i watched the entire movie tonight and i admit, it made me laugh. a lot. i laughed so hard at their choreography. total hilarity!
oh, what a bargain.

i am at work and am so bored
BORED BORED BORED BORED BORED BORED.
also am sick of all the twenteen activity. why do they keep hiring little girls who giggle and talk like they've lived a hundred lives, yet they've never lived away from home??
no one cares about you and your "sugar daddy." by the way that's called being an ESCORT!
no one cares about how many drinks you had and "oh my gawd i got so drunk last weekend" in that shrilly high child voice you have.
stop talking! if there's no need to talk, then don't say anything! you may like to listen to the sound of your own voice, but no one else does! Trust me!
why can't this company hire women instead of little girls who live in their own little worlds?
DRIVES ME INSANE!

finally!
After a long delay, i finally got to watch the movie Atonement with Jason last Sunday. In a previous post, I mentioned I was looking forward to the opening of the movie and was originally going to watch it with my bezzie, Melissa, but she somehow convinced me (she really should be in sales or marketing) to watch Into the Wild instead. That was also a good movie, although my sympathy only ran so far for the guy (spoiled burbs kid who took off without telling his parents to find "happiness," only to find out that happiness is only real when it's shared).
Anyway, Atonement - fabulous, best movie of the year. I can't believe I waited two months to see it. Cinematography was incredible - the Dunkirk scene will probably be analyzed and part of film school curriculum from now on (do you think Ryan?). The acting, especially by Saoirse i-forgot-her-last-name-but-somehow-remember-how-to-spell-her-first-name, was phenomenol. I really wanted to punch that little girl in the face. poor robbie. poor cecilia.
I also realized how lucky I am. I guess sometimes I take things for granted, ie. Jason, and this movie sort of reminded me that there are people out there who aren't as lucky, due to unfavorable or sad circumstance.

This movie totally deserved the BAFTA and should have won best picture at the american oscars.
AND.
of course! James McAvoy was sexxxxy as hell. he can write me a sexually graphic letter anytime.

one more thing to cross of my to-do list!
my besties and i went dress shopping and found the dress! we went down to bridal row in new westminster and found it at Lisa's Bridal Salon on columbia st. it's a tea-length empire waist dress. so gorgeous. here's a picture of the dress and it's in this hideous yellow color. i don't know why brides pick such ugly bright clown colors for their bridesmaids, but i love the classiness of neutrals so i picked taupe as the dress color.
now i'm going to go for a run along the seawall. we celebrated our dress decision by going for a beer so i should run that off.

humming a happy tune
i ran for 50 mins yesterday with my new ipod shuffle. ahh! all i needed was the motivation. Thanks IPOD!
Met up with our priest, Father Gord on Sunday. That's the most time I've spent at Church - EVER. Three hours. Wowzas. During our meeting, we booked our rehearsal and preplanning meeting. He's leaving everything up to us. The readings, the music, recession order and procession order. He's lovely. I'm glad we picked him to be our celebrant. He's very laid-back and easy going. When he found out that we live together, he said that yes, the Church regards it as a sin, but he doesn't think it a big deal. Since we're having Mass though, he said we have to go to confession after our Rehearsal.
After spending 3 hours at Church on Sunday, Jason was convinced that the good Lord was smiling on us the rest of the day. We ran a few errands, met Tobes & Lou for lunch and had no problems finding parking. We were able to park very close, or had money in the meter already - all day! Alleluiah.

Sarah Is.....
After reading Ryan's latest blog entry, I had to see what my own search would come up with. I googled Sarah is and got:
Sarah is beautiful. Sarah is beautiful inside and out, she's the most beautiful girl....
I'd say that's pretty damn accurate!!! Check out the search result by clicking on the link below:

what to do what to do
a bit of a dilemma and i don't know what to do.
my cousin is getting married in rome on august 8th. our wedding is on sept 27th.
the cost to fly out to rome is $1800 per person +accommodations which is just under $1000 for 5 nights. it's pricey. that's $4,600 for me and jason.
we were thinking maybe i'll just go alone. but that's still going to be about $2500 - $3000. that's a lot of money. that can pay for our DJ, our transportation, our flowers. we're saavy. we can stretch a dollar when it comes to little wedding details.
now our other option (the most viable option) is just to go to their reception in the states on the 13th. it's very close to our own wedding, but i want to at least attend one of his celebratory events. we just have to make sure all our planning is done and that we can afford to leave for a few days before our wedding. it's a much cheaper option as well. we can probably get a good deal for a round trip to san fran and hopefully we can stay with one of my aunts for the weekend.
so....we'll see what we decide. unless we come across some extra cash, it sounds like rome may be a no go, but not confirmed yet. still weighing our options....

A New Year
New Year's is usually a let down, a disappointment even. But not this year!
This year, a gaggle of us strays went to where Jason works (Le Marrakesh) to ring in the New Year. After drinking at my place, we thought that'd be a good place to hang out, especially since we don't have to pay cover and all that.
Jason working while we....
we were drinking at home
and then off to the party!
I've also added the link to our wedding website the right hand side over there --->
Please check it out and sign the guest book when you have a chance!
