kiss the blarney stone

after much deliberation, jason and i have decided to kick off our 2007 eurojourney in Ireland. we are lucky enough to have a very good friend of ours living in cork county, so off to shiralley-welly's we go! then from the southwest corner we'll be driving up the east coast to dublin, stopping to kiss the blarney stone along the way. (as i person freakingly scared of heights -- even 1m -- this will be quite an experience)

Ireland.
i am going to overdose on de kilkenny
YUMMY!
and.......if time allows, we'll spend the remainder of our vacation in london (i didn't get to go into westminster abbey) and maybe take the eurostar over to paris for a few days. (cross your fingers!)
YAY EUROTRIP 2007!!!!!!

single line pls

tomorrow i'm going to join the hordes of people lining up to get their passport renewed. although my passport expires in august, i plan on travelling in september again and better not leave it till the last minute. it's ridiculous really, this whole lining up for 5 hours thing. and it doesn't help that the american whatshisface said that instead of 2009 being the deadline to get your passport for land-travel cross borders, it's been moved up to 2008. (who understands this constant american fear and paranoia?) so i'm thinking the lineups will be even worse. and apparently, you're not allowed to smile in your passport photo anymore so my picture looks like a terrible mugshot.
why make travel such a pain in the ass now??

I'm a Goat!

i'm a goat in the year of the pig. a co-worker printed out my goat-y characteristics for me to indulge in.

Personality
The Goat is known to be extremely patient, persevering and adaptable animal. Even the harsh living conditions of the wilderness cannot daunt the Goat. Though it looks vulnerable, it possesses a strong will to live. People born under the Goat year are refined, loyal, and introverted. They also have extraordinary inner strength. They do not go for quick profit, but do their work in a step-by-step fashion, until they succeed. Besides being diplomatic, they are attentive and considerate towards each other.

Career
Success in career will be achieved slowly, but steadily. You reap what you sow. Those born in the Goat year are unwilling to job-hop or change their way of life easily. This is one reason why the usually shine in whatever job they undertake. In their youth, their money prospects are average. However, things will look up when they are in their 40’s and they may even become millionaires. Because of their sentimental nature and inborn talent, they are suited to pursue careers in music, dancing, writing, hair design, or the beauty line.

Romance
They look for stability in a relationship and marriage and have a deep commitment towards family. Females born under the Goat sign make good wives and mothers. They want their effort and position to be given due recognition by their husbands. Males born under the Goat sign make good husbands. They tend to be chauvinistic and expect a lot from their wives.

television set go!

Yesterday was the much awaited premiere of "The Hills 2." So I'll jump right into it. The main character, Lauren Conrad, who works for Teen Vogue (who got her internship with little if NO experience??) was offered a summer internship in the most lovely city in the world, Paris. What does the girl do?? She decides to pass on the chance of a lifetime to stay home for the summer with her loser deadbeat boyfriend at a beachhouse. It's not like they moved in together, permanently. They just moved in for a summer. That's 4 months. The woman (or shall I refer to her as a "girl"), decides that being with her boyfriend is better than developing her career opportunities. I was appaulled that her lazy, spoiled friend, Heidi, even suggested that staying with her boyfriend at home might be best because they were in a "better place" and how can she leave him now?
Puh-leeese girl. I'm glad Whitney went to Paris instead and that her boss said Lauren will always be known as the "girl who didn't go to paris." I also loved how her boss asked her summer went with her boyfriend at the beach. HAH! LOVES IT.
I can't believe they air crap like this and I can't believe I watch it! But I'm more concerned for the younger people who watch this shit and possibly get the idea that staying home with your boyfriend instead of advancing your career goals, your dream goals is what a woman's priority should be. Especially now, when all I see are all these twenteens and young girls who dress exactly like Avril Lavigne or behave like an airhead so they can get the guy -- I think girls nowadays are so obsessed with material things, with superficial things that they lack any sort of intelligence since they believe and strive to be whatever they see on TV. How can Lauren Conrad be the heroine of this show? She's a ditsy, superficial bore with no personality and lacks commonsense. Her coworker should be the heroine. I'd rather watch her go about her day than watch twiddledee and twiddledum make out with the princes of malibu.

AND THEN, after watching the Hills, I flipped the channel to Entertainment Tonight, where Vanessa wannabe Lachey, was covering the Super Bowl and - GET THIS - she described the Super Bowl as the BIGGEST SPORTS EVENT IN THE WORLD.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!

WTF - The biggest sports event in the world is the Superbowl? Is she referring to the world of the United States?? Do they ever see past their borders??? I'm pretty confident in saying that THE WORLD CUP is the biggest sports event in the world. Probably even bigger than the Olympics! I just can't imagine or see american football as the biggest sport in the world. That's really exaggerating it. Talk about the funniest example of american patriotism and pride. That's just the funniest thing I have ever heard in my life!!

Wow. I need to quit american tv and stick to Corner Gas and Black Books.
