I have been contemplating moving to another city. I talked to Jason about it and he seems quite open to the idea. I think it would be a nice (and much needed) change: different atmosphere, different culture, different pace....My company has a position open in Halifax, NS. I think living in the Maritimes would be awesome. I also know Toronto has a lot of opportunities in the industry I work in. Montreal would also be a great place to live. I lived there for 4 months and absolutely loved it. Everyone there is so laid-back and it's really easy to make friends there. There's also the possibility of moving to Europe. I completed my last CIP course and since it's recognized in all commonwealth countries, I could work in so many other places such as the UK, New Zealand, Australia...even Trinidad! There's other possibilities such as moving to small towns in France, England or Spain. Jason and I can open up our own patisserie in Brittany, France or a pub in Manchester or a restaurant in Seville. We've discussed this before, but more in the context of what we would do when we retire.
O! Retirement. I can't wait to retire, but that's another post for another day....

holy shit.
We got a notice from Canada Post yesterday - there's a parcel waiting for us at the Post Office. I thought, wow, it could possibly be our first wedding gift!
Jason went to the Post Office this morning and retrieved a very large envelope. It was sent registered.
I just saw the contents. There was a letter, and two card envelopes. I read the letter. It's from my Godmother, Lilia. I haven't talked to her since her son's wedding 3 years ago, but I've always regarded her as very generous and kind. I remember my family bumped into hers at the PNE when I was 6 and she shoved a one-hundred dollar bill in my small paw. That was for First Communion.
So I read the letter. She thanked us for inviting them to our wedding, gave us updates on what she's up to, what her son is up to. All very nice.
I open up an envelope. It's a wedding card with her business card in it and the RSVP.
The second card envelope. The motherload of it all.....

A card that says "A Wedding Gift For You" with a cheque made out to us in the amount of $1,000.00
Not 100 bucks. 1000 bucks. I made sure to count the zeros and that there's a comma after the one.
HOLY SHIT!
She said she owes me big time for missing my Confirmation, Graduation and Birthdays.
I LOVE MY GODMUM!!!

July is a GREAT month
Lots of things happening this month, such as me completing the last course in completing my CIP (Chartered Insurance Professional designation). I wrote the exam on the 10th and I'm pretty sure I didn't fail it. We also booked our florist. Thanks to Melissa, I bought my wedding shoes! I went to the states with her a month or so ago and I found a pair of Stuart Weitzman shoes, but they didn't have my size. Last Friday, Melissa called and said that Winners had my shoes for only $130!! It was a steal! We've also decided on our wedding favours. I also picked up my veil. Today, I found out that we have possession of new apartment on Monday, July 21st so we can start moving in next week!! Last Friday, our office had our annual summer event. This year we went on a mystery boat cruise. It was "Clue" on a boat! Fabaluss.
Lots of great things going on and I couldn't be happier! Not to mention that my bestest friend is coming home early August - I'm so happy she'll be here, I can't wait to see her!

recap of my interrupted canada day long weekend
Friday - got drunk at mooses. almost threw up on robson street. thought gelato would make me feel better. it didn't.
Saturday - i yelled at the contractor in the morning because he parked his car right in front of the door so no one could get out. you could probably hear me from robson & denman. no one tells me to "shut up." Then i took the skytrain to new west to pick up my veil. i will never take skytrain again. at noon, there was a drunk guy who was yelling at people on the train and then he started smoking in the train! WTF. went to the gym. sat on the beach with my friend Nen, met up with sandy later. met up with jason and we walked home together.
Sunday - went for tasting! four seasons wedding coordinator started to bug me with her "we're doing this very early" and "you don't have to make any decisions now" comments. No, it's not early. I want to get things done now so I don't have to think about it later. food was good though. she let us take it all home. Went to parents place for BBQ - more food to take home. went through closets and threw out things - that made me feel so much better.
it sounds like i had weekend of annoyances, but really, it was quite enjoyable!

wiiiii!!!
my good friend loulou had a wii party at her place last saturday and we were all pumped. people told me that you get a good workout playing wii, but i didn't believe them. tennis - all you do is wave your arm around. same with golf. and baseball. bowling is like bowling. BOXING, on the other hand, was a different story.
you get so into it that you don't realize you're punching like you're actually hitting your opponent.
now my back is really sore. but it's worth it.
:o)

the downside
the downside of being in the same industry as your mother is when you go to industry cocktail parties after work and get smashed with your colleagues. your mother is there to tap you on your shoulder and ask, "how much have you had to drink? do you want to leave with me? your dad is downstairs waiting. we can drop you off at home. i'm going in 15 mins."
oh dear god.
i think she will be retiring in 5 years. at least i hope so.

"we're moving on up......to the east side"
This past Monday we received Notice to End Tenancy from our Landlord. You see, our apartment building was sold to the new owner who now wants to renovate all units and jack up the rent. We were the only tenants left on our floor so on Monday, we were told we have 2 months to leave the premises.
It was stressful getting the notice. By August 31st we have to be out of there and in a new place and our wedding is in September....too much on our plate!
Since Jason had Monday and Tuesday off, he scoured the West End for a new place to live. A lot of the affordable stuff is crap. We enjoyed a sweet deal at our place on Beach Ave - $1000 rent between the both of us, includes parking. We were right on the beach, at the entrance of Stanley Park and we had "THE" place for the annual fireworks competitions.
We viewed a condo in The George building - it's a newish bldg - 2 bedroom, 2 full bath and the kicker for me - INSUITE LAUNDRY. Rent is a lot more, but considering 1 bedroom apartments in the West End are going for at least $1400, this one's a steal. It's closer to work - about 4 blocks away for me and half the distance for Jason - and we're on the 15th floor so we get a nice view of the North Shore and Stanley Park.
I just got a call from the realty company that we were accepted and can move in August 1st!!
We are so excited. I will never have to scrounge up loonies for laundry and I no longer have to pay for gym membership as there's a gym in the building!
Insuite laundry and a dishwasher. Can it get any better than that???

off they go!
we sent off the first batch of invites, mostly people we work with and family in Canada.
we're still waiting for addresses for familiy outside of Canada, so that may a few more days. i also found a box to put jackie's bridesmaid dress so it's on its way to california. as funny as this sounds, it now feels like we're getting married with our invitiations being sent. the point of no return.
on a sad note, i just heard this morning that one of my uncles had a stroke and he's in the hospital trying to recover. he has to go through speech therapy as he can't complete a sentence anymore. sigh. praying for his speedy recovery.
